I sometimes forget to be grateful and when I do; it’s because I’ve gone to the dark side for a moment. I may be listening to the news and hearing about some really bad stuff going on somewhere in the world, and I feel downright bad. Why does all this stuff happen? Why do bad things happen to good people? What have children done to deserve this kind of treatment? You know the kind of thing. And I get upset and then angry, then guilty. I should be doing something about it….it’s not enough to send money, or donate to a project.

But it is. Sometimes that’s all we can do. We do what we can do and then we live our lives the best that we can. People who are in the dark, need people to be doing good things on their behalf. If I’m feeling down, I need to know that somewhere in some distant part of the world, or maybe my neighbor right next door, is praying for good things to happen. Thinking good thoughts. Being grateful for what they have.

So then I need to be that person too. Praying for good things. Feeling grateful for the things I have. Being happy, sending out good thoughts. If we want this planet to be a great place, we need to take the right action and think the right thoughts. Right action means doing what you know is the right thing. Not spreading gossip. Standing up for a friend. Loving the people in our family. Caring for friends and neighbors. Being grateful. So for today, be grateful for everything that you have…for the water in your tap, for the heat in your home, for the food on your table and for the friends who lend a helping hand. Expect to be amazing and amazing things will happen. Rock N Roll Val & Jeff

It’s simple, I know, and it makes sense. In relationships and situations throughout life we find ourselves either adding to an event in a positive way, or destroying it in some way. And we always know which one we are doing by the way we feel. If we feel bad, we’re usually in a destroying mode, and if we feel good, we’re usually in a creative mode. So for today, lets be creative, Rock N Roll Val & Jeff

It’s easy to have a great day when things are going great. It’s when things are not going so well that it becomes a challenge. And when you take up the challenge and choose to have a great day anyway…that’s when you push through and wonderful things happen.

It’s a way of building up your power. You become a warrior of your own life, your own business and your own personal life. It’s about you choosing to be powerful and in control of the situation or the event.

So, next time you feel down, take a big breath and remember you have a choice. And that choice is to allow the powerful you to come forward and be the leader. You are in charge of your life. You are the leader of your situation, and you are the one who decides how you lead your life. So have a great day, no matter what. Rock N Roll Jeff & Val

Every night, a racoon walks past our window and pauses to look in; we look at it, and it looks at us then it goes on its way. We live in a wooded area beside a lake, so it’s full of animals and birds making their homes and nests around us. It’s not surprising that a racoon lives beside an oak tree in our yard.

When it’s snowing we can see where the racoon goes. And the amazing thing is that it’s always the same. Like a deer trail, only smaller. It walks to the end of our house and turns right and crosses the lawn until it reaches the garden shed, where it walks over the little porch and down the other side to continue on towards the lake side. It does this every night, exactly the same path.

It doesn’t go in a straight line; it curves for no apparant reason adding a few feet to the path, so it’s not exactly the most economically thought out path. Then I realize that I do the exact same. Every morning I get up and do the same stuff. Shower, breakfast, work. I even have the same thoughts. And so it’s time to shake it up….maybe you want to also.

Physically, go to work via a different route. Speak to different people. Sit with a different group of people for lunch. Have different thoughts about people. The one that you don’t usually have good thoughts about….think good thoughts. If you usually talk a lot, talk less. If you usually don’t talk a lot, talk more. Shake it up and take a different path and you will find different results. Rock N Roll Val

At the beginning of this year I set some new goals, which many of us do. Then I realized that I was not always living as if my goals were already achieved. It was as if I would not be happy, safe or secure until the goals had been met. This is not the best way to live a good life.

I believe the best way to live a good life, is to know where you want to go and then really enjoy the journey.

Have fun, no matter whether your goals have been met or not. Live your life as if you are where you want to be…because guess what? You are where you are. And you will always be in this same place no matter whether you have met your goals or not.

If you are unhappy with your life, reaching your goal will not suddenly and magically make you happy. Maybe you have already noticed this. You want to get a good education, get married, have children, have so much in the bank account….and if all these achievements have made you happy then that is wonderful.

Many of us do not find happiness however when we reach our goals. We set the goal and wait until we get it….forgetting that the journey to the goal is the life. Where you are right now is your life. Life it with fun and vigour. Do your best every day. Do everything that needs to be done today and be happy that you have done it. Don’t overwork yourself or do more than you need to do today. Tomorrow will be ready for tomorrow’s work. Today be where you are and have fun. Rock N Roll Jeff

I’m looking out at a frozen lake covered with snow. It’s icy and cold outside and yet there are these squirrels leaping from branch to branch high above my office. I’m reminded that no matter what is going on, things are always happening. No matter how cold the weather, people are out on the roads clearing the snow and scattering salt. No matter how cold it is, people are collecting garbage and doing their job. And that’s what life is about–doing what is necessary to keep going; to do our job and to do it to the best of our ability.

It’s not about working too hard, or overworking or working at a job that we don’t like. It’s about taking the right action and being great about it. It’s about going with the flow and travelling downstream instead of battling upstream against the flow of your life. If you work with other people, be great with them. If you work in isolation, reward yourself at the end of each day. The reward could be as simple as reading a good book, watching a great TV program, or catching up with people.

The idea of this life is to have a happy life. Do what you need to do and enjoy what you do. When you have to do something that you don’t like to do; do it and do it well, then concentrate on the things that you are good at. I wish you all the very best in this good life. Rock N Roll Jeff

How many times have I sat and thought about great ideas? Sat and thought about the way life should be led. Sat and thought about my family and friends and what I should be doing with them? How many times have I sat and thought about my business?

Sitting and thinking has a real value; and looking at one’s life is important. The amazing thing that I’ve found though, is that when I take action, that’s when things really start to happen. Action is the key word of life. We have to take our thoughts and put them into tangible, workable outcomes.

To get that feeling of being worthwhile and achieving something I must take action upon my thoughts. I must pick up the phone, I must see that person face to face. I must go to that meeting. Taking action is the most satsifying thing I can do as a human bieng because then I have accomplished something. So lets take action today and every day to make a difference. Rock N Roll. Jeff
