A Commitment to Excellence

There’s lots of courses and workshops about how to be a leader, a team player, how to give great customer service and how to be amazing–so it should be easy right? Yet, there are conflicts all around with people not seeing ‘eye to eye’, and taking things personally.

Let’s just for the next few days have a commitment to excellence just for ourselves. No one else. Just you and me doing great because we can. Because we want to be the best we can be. Let’s not worry about what other’s are doing or not doing. Lets just be great. Rock N Roll Val & Jeff

Creating or Destroying

I was recently at a drumming session listening to a Native American telling stories and drumming. He said, “You are either creating something or destroying something. So whatever you are doing, always ask yourself, ‘am I creating or destroying?’”

It’s simple, I know, and it makes sense. In relationships and situations throughout life we find ourselves either adding to an event in a positive way, or destroying it in some way. And we always know which one we are doing by the way we feel. If we feel bad, we’re usually in a destroying mode, and if we feel good, we’re usually in a creative mode. So for today, lets be creative, Rock N Roll Val & Jeff

Persistence

There’s nothing better than persistence. It just keeps going and going, building energy and creating something to happen. If you’re in sales, it’s really important; and if you’re in any other kind of business it’s really important too.

Persistence is what keeps people going when the going gets tough. It keeps sales people picking up the phone and making the call. It keeps people coming into work and being the best that they can be. Just for today, no matter what you are doing, be persistent. Keep on going. Keep doing the right thing and amazing things will happen. Rock N Roll Jeff & Val

Having a Great Day No Matter What

It’s easy to have a great day when things are going great. It’s when things are not going so well that it becomes a challenge. And when you take up the challenge and choose to have a great day anyway…that’s when you push through and wonderful things happen.

It’s a way of building up your power. You become a warrior of your own life, your own business and your own personal life. It’s about you choosing to be powerful and in control of the situation or the event.

So, next time you feel down, take a big breath and remember you have a choice. And that choice is to allow the powerful you to come forward and be the leader. You are in charge of your life. You are the leader of your situation, and you are the one who decides how you lead your life. So have a great day, no matter what. Rock N Roll Jeff & Val

Valentines Day

What do you think of valentines day? Have you sent cards? Bought a present? Hoping to get a present? Where are you on the scale of opening your heart to other people? I know it’s not really a business thing to discuss, and it’s important that we keep open to …. dare I say it in a business blog … love!

I’m not talking about the romantic love, unless you work with your spouse like I do. I’m talking about loving your customers, your colleagues, your boss. Loving your job. That’s what valentines day should be about. Loving your life, your job, what you do for a living.

When you enjoy what you do and are enthusiastic about it….everything is great. Even when things go wrong, which they do…you will not feel too bad about it…you will love your life. Rock N Roll Jeff & Val

Same Trail, Same Result

Every night, a racoon walks past our window and pauses to look in; we look at it, and it looks at us then it goes on its way. We live in a wooded area beside a lake, so it’s full of animals and birds making their homes and nests around us. It’s not surprising that a racoon lives beside an oak tree in our yard.

When it’s snowing we can see where the racoon goes. And the amazing thing is that it’s always the same. Like a deer trail, only smaller. It walks to the end of our house and turns right and crosses the lawn until it reaches the garden shed, where it walks over the little porch and down the other side to continue on towards the lake side. It does this every night, exactly the same path.

It doesn’t go in a straight line; it curves for no apparant reason adding a few feet to the path, so it’s not exactly the most economically thought out path. Then I realize that I do the exact same. Every morning I get up and do the same stuff. Shower, breakfast, work. I even have the same thoughts. And so it’s time to shake it up….maybe you want to also.

Physically, go to work via a different route. Speak to different people. Sit with a different group of people for lunch. Have different thoughts about people. The one that you don’t usually have good thoughts about….think good thoughts. If you usually talk a lot, talk less. If you usually don’t talk a lot, talk more. Shake it up and take a different path and you will find different results. Rock N Roll Val
