The Way Forward with Optimism
I was talking with my 79 year old step mom this morning. She lives in Wales in the UK and we regularly talk over the phone. What I love about her is her youthful outlook on life. She’s amazing. Walks every day, loves her garden, eats to keep her body healthy, does yoga…and yes, okay maybe she has to time to do those things now that she is retired. Except she’s always been that way, even when she was working as a teacher.
So this morning she said, “If I don’t do my half-hour yoga, in the morning I don’t feel good, and life is about feeling good.” I agreed with her and then she told me what I consider to be the secret of a long and healthy life, “It takes work but it’s worth it–the consequence of not the right things are not worth it.”
So that’s really it isn’t it? Knowing what works and working towards making those things a habit. I love that every day when I wake up I have a choice, what do i want to do today that is going to make my life better. Then choose the things that make us feel good rather than the things that will ultimately make us feel bad. Sounds simple. It is and that’s the thing that is so easy to forget.
It’s not the struggle of life that makes us happy, it’s doing the right things at the right time. Rock N Roll Val
